Brush Dale's Northwestern Grasslands is approximately 200 acres of rolling hills that were formerly corn and hay fields. The Northwestern Grasslands, which includes five ponds, a wetlands, and several food plots, was first planted in 1994 with natural Iowa grasses, wildflowers, shrubs, bushes, and trees. Grasses grow over 6-feet tall and so thick one barely walk through it in places! You will need to schedule a full-day hunt in order to cover all of the Northwestern Grasslands. In addition to the large, Northwestern Grasslands, Brush Dale has four additional Grassland fields. The 20-acre Southwestern Grasslands field is across Hwy 62 from the Northwestern Grasslands and has a food plot. The 20-acre Northeastern Grasslands field is across the Brush Creek Bridge toward Bellevue along Hwy 62. It includes Minnow Pond and a food plot. The two Southeastern Grasslands fields, which Brush Creek borders to the south, have also been partially restored to Iowa Grasslands and include two food plots. Along the lane to the 35-acre field, a permanent marker for Iowa's first governor's homestead overlooks the 5-acre field. |
