In the fall of 1998, we took another big step toward restoring Brush Dale's landscape to its former diverse glory. The Brush Creek bottom (previously pasture ground) was planted with walnut trees, oak trees, and shrubs; 29,500 tiny trees and shrubs, covering approximately 30 acres were planted by machine. The project took several people about three weeks to complete. An additional 30 acres were planted in March of 2000.
Trees that were once so small they could not be seen from the highway are now 20-feet tall. But, in a testament to the length of time it takes for a mighty oak to grow, the trees are still less than six inches in diameter. |
