Tito is a striking Small Munsterlander with a beautiful, sleek, dense, soft brown & white coat accented by extensive furnishings. His coat is correct for the breed - fairly short and tight on the body, with well-developed feathering on the tail, ears, forelegs, and hind legs. He has almond-shaped, medium-brown eyes, a high ear set, and an athletic, balanced frame. Tito weighs 45 pounds and stands 53 cm, embodying both elegance and functional durability.

Tito is an exceptionally high-mileage dog with proven toughness and sound conformation. His feet, structure, and conditioning have supported nine consecutive 100+ day hunting seasons, allowing him to hunt long hours over multiple days with minimal breakdown. This level of endurance is a testament to his excellent structure, stamina, and desire to work.

Hunter is an avid outdoorsman who hunts Tito extensively - typically well over 100 days per year. Tito began hunting during his first season in 2017 at just four months of age, displaying strong pointing instinct early on. Before six months old, Tito had already harvested multiple species of wild birds. Fast forward to 2025, and Tito has hunted in 16 states, successfully pointing and retrieving every U.S. upland game bird - a feat few hunters achieve in a lifetime, let alone over a single dog. His hunting resume spans from the Alaskan tundra, where he rode bush planes tucked between his handler's legs, to the U.S./Mexico border chasing quail through desert cactus, and everywhere in between.

Tito takes the word versatile to an entirely new level. He has retrieved everything from the smallest game birds in North America (sora, rails, Gambel's quail, green-winged teal, and buffleheads) to the largest, including Canada geese and sandhill cranes. He has also tracked wounded deer several times.

In addition to his hunting accolades, Tito is a Certified Woodcock Banding Dog, operating under a special permit through the American Bird Banding Lab. He has a natural talent for locating and pointing brooding Woodcock. A great banding dog requires more than obedience and steadiness, it requires trust. The trust between dog and handler is something special, and I could tell countless stories from our woodcock banding days.

Tito runs with style and elegance, hunting systematically and methodically in both field and forest. His search is one of his greatest strengths. During one of Tito's NAVHDA Utility Tests, renowned judge and breeder Clyde Vetter remarked, "I sure hope you hunt prairie birds with that dog, because that is the nicest-searching Small Munsterlander I've ever seen or judged." Those who know Clyde understand that such praise is rarely given. Tito's range adjusts naturally to terrain and quarry, and it is not uncommon to see him pushing 250-300 yards across a big canyon in Chukar country or ranging out in the short grass prairie.

Beyond the numbers, Tito is easygoing, biddable, and eager to please, with a sound temperament and highly cooperative nature. These traits made him exceptionally easy to train and mold into an elite hunting companion.

Tito is a natural retriever, retrieving to hand as a puppy with only minimal encouragement. Hunter recalls a trout fishing trip when Tito, still a pup, found and carried a deer leg more than a mile back to the truck. Tito happily retrieves the newspaper from the driveway daily and has repeatedly proven himself on late-season goose hunts, often outperforming dogs nearly twice his size. One memorable retrieve involved a wounded goose 400+ yards away in a sugar beet field in Montana. Tito marked, tracked, and retrieved the bird without hesitation. Another standout retrieve occurred in a feedlot, where none of the other dogs would approach the cattle. Tito boldly darted beneath the cows, grabbed the goose, and returned it safely to hand. Some might call that reckless, but Hunter calls it boldness and an unrelenting desire to retrieve downed game.

At home and in camp, Tito is calm, patient, and relaxed. He frequently hikes and camps with Hunter and has completed 20+ Boundary Waters Canoe Area and Quetico trips, including one 10-day journey covering more than 150 miles. His compact size makes him an ideal canoe and kayak companion. Tito also skijors, kick sleds with the family's other dogs, and loves running alongside a fat bike on the trails.

Tito is a truly special dog - an elite searcher, powerful water dog, and natural retriever with an outstanding temperament. He truly has an A+ personality and is the kind of dog you can drop anywhere with complete confidence, knowing he won't cause any trouble - a temperament that makes traveling and sharing motel rooms with other people and their dogs easy.
